Mary Pirotte Hemphill, O.D., received her Doctor of Optometry from the Southern California College of Optometry. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Vision Science from that institution, and attended the University of Kansas for her undergraduate education.

After graduation, she joined the staff as an optometrist at the Eye Center of Kansas City/Hunkler Eye Center for approximately eight years, providing primary care, contact lenses, and pre- and post-operative surgical care for cataract and refractive surgery patients.

Dr. Mary chose optometry as her profession since she wanted to be involved directly with patients in healthcare. She loves individually determining patient’s needs and clearly communicating her findings. Patient education remains an important part of Dr. Mary’s eye health exams.

She is a member of the Kansas Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. In addition to seeing patients, she enjoys singing in her church choir, yoga, traveling, going to estate sales, and refinishing furniture.
